    Double gold at the SF Spirits competition. I've got a bottle coming. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions about it?

    Assuming this is the same rum that I just finished a bottle of (which I bought from OLCC), it is a very nice heavy sipping rum. I did a side by side taste test with a variety of heavy rums (Zacapa, Pampero, etc.) and it came out as the most pleasing. A bit lighter, but with a clear flavor that made the others seem heavy. Supposedly, the lightness comes from the Cuban style, although it is not made in Cuba.

    I was fortunate enough to have a friend send me a bottle recently (with the strict directive to ONLY drink it straight) ;-)

    I really liked it- I tasted caramel tones and *just* a little smoky burn up front. It seems both bright and rich, and is an excellent sipper, IMHO. It's the kind of thing I imagine drinking while wearing a Panama hat and sitting under a palm.

    But I really need to follow Sylvan's lead and do a side-by-side comparison with some of my other rums.
