ROUND 1
There will be 24 competitors in 4 groups of 6 each. There will be two groups before lunch and two after. You are competing only against the other bartenders in your group for the single spot to advance to the final round. All of the competitors in your group will have the same three judges and the same bar setup.
All competitors previously sent Dave Shenaut their top three choices for a base spirit selected from the list of spirits provided by Dave (these are all spirits that are taking part in the GADF). Dave determined which of the competitors’ three choices they received on a first-come, first-served basis. Each competitor must use that assigned spirit as their base.
Competitors must bring anything additional they need in order to prepare their cocktails (additional spirits, bitters, mixers, smokers, glassware, etc.). Each competitor will be required to prepare at least four of the cocktails they’ve chosen to showcase (four of the same cocktail, one for each judge). Again, competitors can bring anything they want for this round, but they must use the assigned GADF spirit as their base spirit for their cocktail. Please bring extra ingredients in case of spillage!
Competitors will have 10 minutes total to make four identical cocktails: one for each of the three judges and one for the tasting table.
2009 GADF MIX-OFF FINALS
Four competitors will qualify from Round 1 to move onto the finals. These finalists will be announced immediately following the end of Round 1. The finals will be held on Sunday from 5-7 p.m.
Finalists are allowed to bring any two ingredients of their choice to place on the back bar (bring enough to share with the others). Each finalist will have 15 minutes to prepare 4 of the same cocktail for the judges.
A secret ingredient will be revealed to each competitor as they compete. Finalists will compete individually so no one will know what the secret ingredient is before they compete. Finalists must feature the secret ingredient in their final cocktail, but can combine that ingredient with anything else that is present on the back bar.
